According to the Sunnah of the Messenger, it is customary for parents to perform Aqeeqah upon the birth of their child. This involves sacrificing two goats or sheep for a boy, and one goat or sheep for a girl.

The sacrifice will be distributed amongst the poor and needy in Syria.
